Marjorie, your illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and immensely inspiring. I've only just (re)started drawing and if I can produce work even half as good as yours one day, I'll be truly happy. Am going on a hunt for your books now. Thank you!

Mrana, Thanks for your comment and compliment - It took me years to get to here - you should have seen my first attempts to illustrate!!! What I did was draw everyday, climb trees, follow butterflies enjoy the sound of the rain - all things like that keeps the child alive within you and shows in one's drawing and above all - don't listen to bullies!

Marjorie, your work is wonderful! I love that you show us your work in progress! I have a question about your method of working. You get such a solid background and still keep the white space for your characters clean. How do you keep them open without losing consistency in the beautiful blue background sky? Thanks!

Lisa - I work with Caran D'Ache Neocolor 2 which is a water soluble oil pastel - I make a a paint from the shavings of the stumps and carefully paint my background - the on top I use the crayons working and working until the texture and colour is right - that background has first the "sky blue" wash, on top I worked with the sky blue crayon - on top of that I worked with the grey, steel grey ans silver grey crayons blending the crayon on the paper - on top of that I blend it all with white - it is a long process - when it is all done I clean up the whit area with a wet clean brush & dapping with toilet paper - Backgrouds sometimes takes me longer that the figures!!! Hope that helps - Marjorie
